Ailish Bain
Ailish is a mother of four and a qualified midwife. Having breastfed all her children and assisted many mothers over the years to breastfeed, she has a qualified understanding of the commitment required for successful feeding, and the encouragement & support that all mothers need to succeed.
Ailish worked as a hospital based midwife for over 15 years in the UK and Australia. Since her return to Ireland she has also worked as a community nurse and a general practice nurse caring for mothers and babies in the community. Her own journey with breastfeeding began with premature twins which was quite a challenge for a first time mother. The journey gave her great insight into the challenges that face all mothers whether its first or fifth time round. Each experience is unique as is each baby.
Ailish feels that enthusiastic support of breastfeeding within our community is essential to make breastfeeding culturally acceptable and the norm in Ireland. Support comes from many sources including healthcare professionals, partners, family, friends and other mothers so it’s important to understand that education is a vital part of succeeding. So she hopes to help and make a difference by her involvement in this new project.
