Guilty about using formula
Your decision should not make you feel guilty and the same goes if you decide to go for combination feeding or if you want to stop breastfeeding. These are personal decisions and if you feel that others are not supportive, they haven’t got the right to pass judgements on your ability as a parent.
Most breastfeeding associations give information on how to stop breastfeeding gradually to minimise pain and discomfort – whatever your feeding choice, you are entitled to support. They also offer support if you are encountering breastfeeding problems, so it’s worth getting in touch.
How to handle feelings of guilt and/or inadequacy
Instead of feeling guilty, try to focus on your baby and your own wellbeing. If you and your baby are happy and healthy, you are doing fine and your partner is bound to support you.If you are feeling pressurised to breastfeed, share your thoughts with people you trust and those who are pressurising you. Never suppress your emotions or let anybody make you feel inadequate as a parent for whatever reason.
